Bathroom heating systems

In the bathroom you need to create all the conditions for a cozy and comfortable stay. One of the important points is the installation of a heating system in the bathroom. There are quite a few options, but most often the heating in the bathroom is arranged using the underfloor heating system and heated towel rails.

If the heated towel rail is connected to a hot water system, it is better to give preference to models made of galvanized pipes.

Underfloor heating in the bathroom: features and specifications
Today, it is hardly possible to surprise anyone with a warm floor in the bathroom, because it has long been not a luxury item, but a direct necessity. After all, it is very pleasant to stand on warm floors after taking a shower or bath, not only does such heating of the bathtub provide additional comfort, it also makes a great contribution to the user's health by preventing freezing of the feet. It is quite simple to lay the underfloor heating in the bathroom yourself, especially if you are going to make repairs in the foreseeable future.

In addition to comfort, underfloor heating in the bathroom is very convenient in that moisture and things will dry much faster, and water on tiles will not stagnate, eliminating the formation of mold and mildew. Heated floors in the bathroom are very convenient and during the off-season, when the heating season has not yet begun or the heating has already been turned off. Indeed, in this case, the warm floor will provide the necessary temperature in the bathroom and will not allow to freeze and catch a cold. Before arranging such a bathroom heating, keep in mind that installing it will require raising the floor level by 2-5 cm.

The installation and installation time of the system may vary depending on which material you prefer.

Scheme of the "warm floor" system.

For underfloor heating, the main and main features are high rates of heat transfer and heat transfer, a sufficiently long service life and practicality. Without these characteristics, there would be no point in installing this kind of coating.

Among the main advantages, aesthetic appearance, ease of operation, and, of course, the most important thing are protection against cold and overheating.

Before you make such heating, you should remember that it is based on the structural elements of the system, and not on the coating material. Thus, a special electric mat is placed under the cover. Remember that it is the mat that will provide the necessary heating of the air and floor in the bathroom, which is why you need to make sure that the device for adjusting the temperature mode is installed.

The mats with which the bathroom will be heated can be of different sizes and capacities. You need to choose them taking into account the characteristics of a particular bathroom.

The procedure for installing a heated floor in the bathroom

To install such heating, prepare the following tools:

Scheme of the device surface of the warm floor.

  • roulette wheel;
  • knife;
  • marker;
  • pliers;
  • building level.

Installation of a warm floor system with a heating element is usually carried out in several stages. First you need to prepare the foundation. To do this, you need to dismantle the old flooring, level the surface, eliminate defects in the concrete screed, if any. If necessary, you can fill in a new screed.

The next stage is laying on a concrete surface a layer of waterproofing material in the form of a special film. Thermal insulation is laid on top of this layer. For these purposes, polyurethane foam or building foil is very suitable. These materials provide the occurrence of the heat reflection effect, which allows heating of the basements as well, if necessary.

Next, a pipe or electric cable is laid in order to provide a flow of heated water in the form of a snake or spiral. After that, the entire resulting system is poured with concrete mortar up to 30 mm thick. The desired flooring is placed on top.

Before you make such heating, you need to consider that the finishing material must meet all the requirements that apply to rooms with a high level of air humidity. So, for example, it is allowed to use ceramic tiles or porcelain tiles as a finishing material. In both cases, the degree of thermal conductivity will be at a fairly high level, the differences will only be in the temperature control. If you decide to make such heating yourself, then, first of all, you need to determine the type of heating.

One of the most popular options is water heated floors, which are often and for quite some time been used as an additional source of heating. Installation of such a warm floor is carried out using a pipe for the flow of hot water.

Features of water heated floors in the bathroom

The scheme is an example of connecting a water floor heating.

To carry out the installation of water floors in the bathroom, under a coating or on a rough floor, a pipe of the required diameter is laid. The pipe, as already mentioned, can be in the form of a snake or a spiral. Hot water will be supplied to the pipe from the boiler of the gas heating system or central heating system. It should be noted that it is more convenient to use a pipe gasket in the shape of a snake, because in this case, delivery and return are carried out in parallel. As a result, the cooling of one sector will always be compensated by the heating of another.

By opting for such a warm floor for the bathroom, you will ensure the safety and environmental friendliness of the heating system. In addition, you will have the opportunity to save money on the operation of the device.

It must be remembered that the installation and installation of water floor heating systems is quite time-consuming and difficult work, so you will have to pay a lot for it. In addition, do not neglect the quality of water, which can also significantly affect the degree of heating in the pipes of the system.

Electric underfloor heating in the bathroom

Installation of electric underfloor heating.

Installation of electric underfloor heating, as a rule, is carried out in small bathrooms. A feature of this type of heating is a fairly simple and relatively quick installation method. To do this, fix a special heating cable in the structure under the floor. The cable, which is fixed with a certain step, is connected to the network and to the thermostat. Typically, the cable has a structure in the form of a nichrome wire with a sufficiently high degree of electrical resistance, and the wire has insulated polymer layers. When installing such a system in the bathroom, the entire circuit of the device is focused on providing protection against accidental damage and moisture.

In order to arrange such heating, you can use thermal mats. These mats have a thickness of up to 4 mm. The operation of the devices is ensured by connecting to electricity. For their installation, it is not necessary to create a heat-insulating layer, and they can also be laid on top of the floor covering. On top, only layers of glue can be applied on which the tile will be laid.

Such bathroom heating is a fiberglass structure. The mesh size is 10x10 mm. The snake of the heating cable is attached to this structure. Pitch size - up to 50 mm. For a bathroom, a single-core section is best suited. These mats are quite easy to install, because they have a ready-made design.

An electric type warm floor will provide its owner with a comfortable stay in the bathroom, while the level of energy costs can be adjusted in accordance with the needs of the user. You can set the quick heating mode.

Before you make a warm floor in the bathroom. it is necessary to evaluate all the components of this event, determine the heating option and consider the upcoming financial costs.
Heated bathroom heated towel rail: types and features of equipment

Scheme of the device for a water heated towel rail.

Bathroom heating can also be arranged with the help of heated towel rails. Modern devices are able to maintain a comfortable temperature in the room. Before deciding on a specific heated towel rail, you need to understand what types of dryers are on the market. There are three main varieties of heated towel rails: water, electric and combined devices.

To connect water heated towel rails, either hot water supply (if hot water is supplied year-round) or heating can be used.

Electric models of heated towel rails are essentially ordinary electric heaters, which are used in case of difficulties with the use of water dryers. Wall and floor variants of this type of dryer are available for sale.

Combined models are the most expensive option because They combine the advantages of two types of devices.

Installation of a heated towel rail in the bathroom

To arrange heating with heated towel rails, prepare the following tools:

Ways to connect to a water heating system.

  • keys - adjustable and pipe;
  • soldering iron for polypropylene pipes;
  • grinder;
  • hammer drill;
  • thread cutter;
  • a set of hex keys.

During the installation of the heated towel rail, you must follow the instructions for its proper installation. Before starting installation of the heated towel rail, you need to arrange the bypass. Bypass is a pipe through which the movement of water is carried out in case of blocking its access to the heated towel rail.

To install this device, pipes with a drive and 2 tees are used. The bypass is equipped with 3 valves, 2 of which are located at the points of connection with the heated towel rail, and 3 valves are designed to block the movement of liquid directly in the bypass, which makes it possible to dismantle the heated towel rail without having to disconnect the entire riser.

In the process of dismantling the heated towel rail, it is necessary to open the bypass tap, due to which the passage of liquid through it will be ensured, and then close the remaining valves, thereby shutting off the water supply to the removable heated towel rail.

The instructions cover 2 options for installing a heated towel rail: subject to the presence of an old dryer in the bathroom and installation of a new dryer. The replacement of the heated towel rail is as follows. First, an old dryer is cut off by a grinder and a thread with a diameter of 0.5 inches is welded to the pipes. Ecoplast fittings are screwed to the threads and soldered to obtain the required distance. Fittings with internal or external thread are soldered to the pipes. A towel rail is installed on the brackets of the required diameter.

If a heated towel rail is not provided, the following steps must be performed. Installation of the device is carried out by inserting it into water heating. In the case of metal pipes, tees cut into external places, from which eco-plastic bends are made to the required place. When soldering pipes, you need to try not to make sharp turns that can make it difficult for water to pass through. Provided that the pipes and the dryer are installed correctly, the fluid movement will not be disturbed and the heating of the system will not deteriorate. The pipes are fastened using the appropriate brackets, after which the towel rail is installed in accordance with the above method.

The bathroom, as a rule, has rather modest dimensions, therefore the heated towel rail will serve in it not only as a functional and useful plumbing device, but also as an original decorative element.
